Technology and more importantly automation have made our life so much easier, but at the same time it has stirred up some controversies as well. In the recent times, a lot of emphases is being given to Artificial Intelligence (AI), how it uses its decision-making capabilities in our everyday lives such as Siri, Cortana, Grab/Uber, Spotify, Iflix/Netflix etc.
But at the same time, this transformation has given rise to this constant fear that soon technology is going to surpass human in all walks of life. According to Gartner “By 2019, artificial intelligence platform services will cannibalize revenues for 30% of market-leading companies” and “By 2019, more than 10% of IT hires in customer service will mostly write scripts for bot interactions.”
Automation has been playing an important role in our lives, relieving us from some mundane tasks and helping us in our day-to-day tasks/chores. That’s where AI is bringing improvement, for instance, businesses know of any delays, risks, glitches, even before they occur. Thus, solving problems by predicting them earlier and coming up with alternative solutions.
Similarly, in project management AI is already using different aspects of automation to send alerts, allocating tasks, managing workflow, collecting data to anticipate next course of action and make better decisions.
But this is only the beginning, as the future of AI involves new and improved tools that would not only benefit businesses but will have a significant impact on team performance and productivity. That being said, AI will always lack people management skills and emotional intelligence to a certain extent. So, replacing project manager and other team members is not a feasible option, as they will have more time to take more creative initiatives than just supervising the administrative and seemingly never-ending tasks.
So, in a nutshell, AI would be making an impact on Project Management in the following ways:
- Offloading mundane tasks to increase productivity & efficiency
- Provide more robust tools to identify risks
- Using data & predictive analysis to improve accuracy
